Sloppy Joes

I don't know about you, but I feel like it's a little tricky to find a good sloppy joe recipe. I do not love large chunks of veggies hidden in my sloppy joe, but I do love one with a lot of flavor. This recipe has both of those things! You can use ground turkey or beef and the recipe literally comes together in 15 minutes or less. Serve it on your favorite hamburger or brioche bun alongside some oven baked fries and you have the perfect weeknight meal!

Sloppy Joes

Makes 6-8 sandwiches

1 Tbsp. olive oil

1 Tbsp. onion flakes

2 tsp. garlic, minced

1 lb. ground turkey or beef

1/2 tsp. kosher salt

1/2 tsp. black pepper

1/2 cup ketchup

1 Tbsp. tomato paste

2 tsp. brown sugar

1/2 Tbsp. balsamic vinegar

1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce

1/2 Tbsp. chili powder

1 tsp. mustard powder

1/2 tsp. paprika

1/4 cup + 2 Tbsp. water

hamburger buns

1. Heat the olive oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add the onion flakes and garlic. Cook for 1 minute.

2. Stir in the turkey or beef, salt and pepper. Cook, breaking up the meat with a spatula, until the meat has browned and cooked through, about 7 minutes; pour off any liquid from the skillet.

3. Meanwhile, whisk the ketchup, tomato paste, brown sugar, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, mustard powder, paprika and water in a medium bowl.

4. Stir mixture into the meat and bring to a simmer. Reduce the heat to medium low and simmer until thickened, about 3-5 minutes.

5. Remove from heat and serve warm in a hamburger bun.
